Life Sentence!?!

What does life sentence mean to you?

I think it should mean that one has to go to prison for the rest of their life, hence the name "life sentence".... but in reality, a life sentence is about 18 years, but the life sentence could even be halved so only 9 years is actually served... seriously, is 9 years in prison really enough for say a murderer? ...Every time I hear about news like this, it really pisses me off... why can't life sentence really be for life? if not, don't call it life sentence! ...don't even get me started on why prisoners have a better quality of life than those who actually work and pay taxes for them to live in luxury, that could be a rant for another day....

Why do Indians sleep with their own family members? Serious Question!

I am an American white guy live in the US. Last year I met this Indian girl named Priya. Talk about hot!! The second I saw her I knew I wanted to be with her. We ended up getting together and for two months everything was perfect. Yea, it was weird that I couldn�t call her house phone at all or her cell after a certain time at night. Also she wouldn�t let me come to her house. But all of this was because she told me that it would take time for her to tell her family that she was dating a white guy. She is a Sikh and a Punjabi. She told be that her family is not racist, but they would not accept a Christian white man so easy. She lives with one older middle sister and her husband and two kids. The husband�s brother, who is married to the oldest sister who lives back in India, also lives in the house. I accepted all of this because I was so into her, and just let things continue.

Needless to say, things fell apart! After I finally met her best friend, (who she never let me talk to alone) who told me the whole truth about her, I broke it off. It turns out that my ex Priya had been sleeping with her brother in law for years. (The same brother in law she had told me had raised her!! Well I was shocked to hear that!) Her oldest sister, the one who has two kids with this guy, lives back home in India. And there is a middle sister, the one my ex lives with.

It turns out the brother in law who was married to the oldest sister first, then comes to the States, and marries the second sister to get papers while he is still married to the first sister. He has a kid with this second sister, and then ends up divorcing her. One month later one of his brothers comes over and with a simple change in spelling of the names, she marries the second brother. 11 months later another kid comes out. But for some reason, the brother of the guy is now raising the first kid as his own, as if he is the real dad. Now the oldest sister is fat and ugly, and she lives 10k miles away. But come on, having sex and acting like you�re in love with a girl you helped raise? While your sleeping with both her sisters, being married to one and divorced to the other?

So in my estimation, here is how this all plays out:

(Names changed to protect the guilty)

Priya (my ex) and her two older sisters, the oldest is Harjot, and the middle is Komal

The two brothers are Dilpreet and Dilraj

Dilpreet marries Harjot in India and has kids

Dilpreet and Harjot help raise Priya (my ex) as a child

Dilpreet moves to the States and marries Komal (still being married to Harjot)

Priya moves to the states as a young teen to live with Dilpreet and Komal

Dilpreet and Komal have a kid (in the States)

Dilpreet and Komal get divorced (in the States)

Komal and Dilraj get married (in the States)

Komal and Dilraj have a kid (in the States)

Priya starts dating Dilpreet, and they have still relations while she gets married to some dude

Priya gets divorced and moves back in with Dilpreet, Komal, Dilraj, and the kids

Priya starts sleeping with Dilpreet again while he is trying to get Harjot and the kids papers to come over

Priya meets me and we start dating she is still in a relationship with Dilpreet

I find out about everything, and I break it off with her!

So is this normal for Punjabi? Or Indian culture in general? I have never been with an Indian girl before. But I have to say after this, I probably won�t ever again! I just wanted to know if this kind of thing goes on all the time in Indian/Punjabi homes? Or did I meet the one messed up family out of the bunch! When I look at pics of my ex now, I still can�t believe how messed up she and her family really are!

fast forward years into the future... you have a child in year 6 picking schools to go to... they got the academic ability to pass the grammar tests, and you have funds to send them to boarding school... would you rather they go to a boarding school, a single sex grammar school, a single sex comprehensice, or mixed comprehensive... and why?

i went to girls grammar myself, and i know a lot of people who went to comprehensive saying i "missed out" on normal schooling... but i think i turned out aite... so if my child passed the test i'd probably pop into grammar school... i wouldnt chose boarding cause i wouldnt be able to keep a proper eye on em..

Apple's third generation iPhone comes in two memory options, 16GB and 32GB. The phone has 256MB RAM. But iPhone 3GS doesn't have a card slot for further memory expansion, which is a sore point.

Let's talk performance. The short version is that the iPhone 3GS still renders web pages slightly faster and can load 3D games faster - but it can't multitask more than Apple's core apps. The iPhone 3GS edges out the Palm Pre Plus on both the Browser speed test and loading up Need for Speed Undercover. The iPhone also, incidentally, blows the doors off webOS when it comes to the number and quality of available games. But the Palm Pre Plus did some door-blowing of its own - you're able to pause the game and pick up right where you left off because of the card multitasking system. hey there forumers! just wondering if ya can help me with a module im attempting to pass.

basically its a radio based module which we produce a 10-15 minute radio show with the brief "its all relative" . my group have decided we'd target asian families, and have a segment talking about pros cons issues and personal constraints to do with arrange marriages. i'd like to include true stories of successes and failures which can obviously be anonymous, and the stories il post up onto a supporting website (which wont go on line for real-purely for the sake of the module) if you have a any stories, could you please pm them to me, or post them onto here, written as youd like them to be written on the website (we may need to cut them down if we read them on the show).

Does UK bhangra lyrics differ from those of the Subasian continent? Does the lyrics of fusional bhangra differ from those of "traditional", more folk-like bhangra?

Still being on hoildays and it being cheap tuesday at the movies we decided to go and see this new punjabi movie out called 'mitti'. From the first 5 minutes I realised - this looks really dodgy and very low budget, but hey let's give it a chance.

So I did and for the next 2 and a half hours I sat enduring a bunch of punjabi men, drinking, perving and basically shooting anyone who didn't agree with them. There was no real plot and all that happens is continual shooting and drinking. The token bad man with his moustache was there. Plus Mika the singer was there with 3 of his friends, the main dude who I swear looks the spitting image of Shoaib Akhtar the cricketer. But it was basically your standard boys film - lots of shooting, big guns, missile launchers, pitchforks and sledgehammers.

Mix in a few really stupid punjabi songs about drinking alcohol and eating chicken and Jatts only staying alone. And you have mitti - I found myself at times laughing at how nuts it was... oh and its to be continued ..? Go figure, everyone was killed off .. I just warn you - do not waste your money, it is not worth watching.

BHINDRANWALE- Terrorist or Saint? The question still remains to be answered even as the world is witnessing 25th year of the death of the most controversial Sikh leader of all time. Seldom do we encounter a figure that is either hated or loved as deeply as Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale. There are not many who can claim to be neutral when it comes to supporting him as a martyr or rejecting him as a terrorist.

Born in the year which saw India�s Birth as an Independent nation, he was all set to play the most sensational innings ever played in Indian politics since that fateful year. Starting his sikh education under Damdami Taksal, he soon became the brightest of the students of the organization headed by Kartar Singh. He started missionary activities travelling village to village guiding sikh youth to take Amrit and thus returning to the purest form of Sikhism. He told them to abstain from alcohol and non-vegetarian food and not to tie their beards. Bhindranwale was blessed with boldness and great oratory skills. Where ever he used to go, villagers used to bring to him their day to day problems which he solved. Ones while he was attending the masses, a girl came to him who said that she was being abused by her in-laws for not bringing enough dowry. He ordered his men to bring her in-laws, when they came he took out few bills from his pocket and told them that the girl was the daughter of Jarnail singh Bhindranwale and they could take as much money from him as they wanted. They immediately went down to their knees and promised never to harass the girl. He was tactful and shrewd and never shied away from displaying whatever power and skills he had, this increased his popularity by leaps and bounds. Bhindranwale, although never claimed any political position, became so powerful that the congress led by Indira Gandhi tried to use him to bring down the Akalis.

The problems started during the clashes between Nirankaris and Sikhs, such times demand a position to be taken and Bhindranwale assumed the role which was best fit to his personality, Aggressive and uncompromising. Khushwant Singh writes that he was aware of the fact that hate is a bigger passion than love. The leader of Nirankaris, Gurbachan Singh, was murdered and Bhindranwale was arrested for the charge of ordering the assassination. His arrest saw clashes in whole of Punjab, later he was released on the lack of evidences. This drama made Indira Gandhi realize the position and power he had assumed in Punjab. He was again arrested the next year, this time for the murder of Jagat Narain the owner of Hind Samachar Group. Incidences of violence grew so much that the union Home Minister had to tell the Parliament that there are no evidences against him and he was immediately released. He was now the single biggest leader in Punjab and both Indira Gandhi and Akalis were plunged into desperation. Bhindranwale was now widely seen as a propagator and advocate of Khalistan movement. He however, chose to be diplomatic while in media "we are not in favour of Khalistan nor are we against it" and "We won't reject it. We shall not repeat 1947".

Bhindranwale and his supporters were said to have started fortifications in Golden Temple complex and finally on June 3rd 1984 Indira Gandhi ordered operation Blue star. Incidentally, it was the fifth Sikh Guru Arjan Dev's Martyrdom Day and so the Gurudwara was full of devotees. Army started the operation and at least 1000 common devotees were killed along with the Bhindranwale and his supporters. The operation was planned in haste. Indira Gandhi lost her life the same year by the hands of her Sikh body guards and what followed after that, was the most horrific genocide since independence. The riots further led to the spell of Militancy which made the hell out of the most prosperous state of the country. The insensible action led to a far greater crisis than if he would have been alive and that too under the worst situation assuming him a terrorist.
The Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee has now made a formal declaration that Bhindranwale was a "martyr" and awarded his son, Ishar Singh, a robe of honor. His death has made him close to what some may say the messiah of Sikh faith and today he is widely revered as a great leader among the Sikhs, world over.Even today, nobody with any serious political aspirations in Punjab can dare condemn him.

I'm planning to crash a stag do in Las Vegas in March... but at the moment i can't find any cheap deals so i wouldn't have any money spare to play in the casinos, it would be rather pointless going all the way to vegas and not gamble a little.... if i can't afford to go to vegas, i'm thinking of going to Orlando in April instead, i have a mate who is going there for work, so i could stay with her and save on hotels costs, therefore can spend on the parks and shopping

My penchant for nasties is leading me into Stieg Larsson's trio of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. I'm going to read that trilogy this summer. If anyone has read these could you let me know what you thought, worth a read or pass?

I am not a Christian but can feel their pain.
When its a holiday for another religion it is mentioned, e.g. Diwali, Eid etc.

Apparently some "minorities" go through what can only be described as a constipated ###### have an epileptic fit * and rave on about how they feel offended by Christmas.

People say a lot of things but is this country really so PC that they have 'de-religionised' [yes thank you I freaking know its not a word] what is essentially the most religious event for the largest religion in this country???
For example imagine if happens in India, Pakistan or any other country and they decide to make Diwali and Eid into a 'Happy Holiday'???? There would be riots and destruction on a scale that will make the movie 2012's director cry with shame.

So, people who say "Happy Holidays", please- don't insult the said religion and just say the event name for what it is. Its just-a-word and will not, I repeat will NOT kill you, I guarantee it**.

Why bring a bottle of wine to your next dinner party when you can just drop a few tablets of whisky on the kitchen table and call it a night?

"We have developed a technology that allowed us to turn any liquid solution into powder," the scientist was quoted as saying by a web portal.

The mastermind behind the technique is Evgeny Moskalev, who was first able to produce vodka into a "dry" form, supposedly to make it easier for consumer to calculate an exact dosage. After the transformation, the "dry" vodka (or whiskey, or beer) can fit easily into bag or even your pocket.

An act of brilliance or sheer stupidity? We'd say its a perfectly blended cocktail of the two.

When was the last time you had alcohol and how much did you drink? Did you have a hangover? Did you get up to any mischief when drunk?

Yesterday, went out for lunch with work mates and had a pint of pear cider, then our work do xmas do was in the evening, and this is what I had to drink:

1 x glass of champagne
2 x double vodka and j2o
1 x smirnoff ice
8 x vodka shots - all within an hour - we had a vodka ice luge

I didn't have a hangover when I woke up I was only aching from all the dancing and wearing heels and I slipped on the dance floor coz it was slippery from spilled drink

The only request is that the phone is a Nokia with a working camera... I dont wanna spend the earth on it because everything else given to cousins lasts a few months before its broken and another request comes in...

So far the cheapest Nokia camera phone that I have found is the Nokia 1680 for £25 ...

I wanted to buy the above phone (picture one) and its £50 at the moment ... my only problem is that taking one phone thats been requested would mean that when my other cousins find out then they gonna be like wheres theirs / why aint I got them one / why have I given my sali (wifes sister) a phone and not them ... blah blah blah... So in order to be prepared I thought why not take a couple and I can just hand them out to them if they ask... if they dont on the last day I can just give them the phone... Some of my cousins have requested something and others aint.. so the ones that get something wont get the phone.. the ones that didnt ask for anything can get the phone... Well anyway they only want Nokia phones with a camera so anyone know of any cheap phones like the Nokia 1680 for £25? As a last resort I would just get the same phone and give them the same one but would prefer different models... for the moment I think I would need about 3 phones but this may increase which is why I dont wanna fork out for an expensive model as then all hell breaks lose when someone has a better phone and blah blah..

For the frickin 2nd time this week had someone call the house phone asking if we want to claim compensation for any injurys...

As soon as I heard the women speak and say compensation I was like NO not interested, NO ONE has been hurt. The silly cow didnt listen and was like someone must of been hurt in the last 2-3 years, try and remember ... So I was like fuckit... I said their was this one time... and the womens like oh ok please do tell.. so I was like I was having sex and hurt my penis can I claim? She then says Pardon... So again I repeated... I was having sex and damaged my penis can I claim compensation ... to which she replied .. I am sorry to hear that sir... and then she cut the phone ... LOL ..

I have heard about this for a while now but couple of weeks ago it was mentioned on BBC morning news.

Students coming to the UK from Asian countries are eating most of their meals at Gurudwaras' across the country.
This is due to the harsher economic conditions and lack of jobs.

Now what I heard is that the Gurudwara Committee (Southall) have been finding it a little difficult because people are giving less food donations. Also a lot of these students can actually afford pasta and ketchup but eat at Gurudwara to save money and because they can. The result is that the committee is having to spend more money buying food than say automobiles.

The reason I put this topic in Religion is because I ask you the question, Is it okay for folk to eat most of their meals at the Gurudwara just because they cannot afford/too stingy to buy it themselves?
Second slightly more controversial question, Is the concept of langar still a valid concept in todays day and age?
Langar was formed in days of turmoil to serve a specific purpose and that it did. If you don't know, go find out.
Today's turmoils is different and cannot be solved with langar. Now its just a social gathering and Sunday lunch for most people- and for some their entire diet.

So work is going to start upgrading peoples phones again, and the current choices I have been given are:

Nokia 5800 - not sure what the difference is between the navigation edition and the normal one, but i think it will be this one

Nokia 6730

I have already tried to hold out for a better alternative (since it has been 3 years since i got my current 6230i, but no luck so far)

Both phones are almost identical except the 5800 is touch screen

Does anyone have any experience with either phone?

My plan is that if i can get work to include a data package with the phone, i will get rid of my current prersonal phone when the contract expires early next year

as i was squeezing the brine out of the can of tuna i was cut a few mm deep into my finger, i didn't notice at first, i proceeded to make my sandwich, anyway as i finish i noticed a few red marks over the plate and on the sandwich, i thought it was ketchup, then i realised i didn't use ketchup then i see my finger and see a cut dripping blood....always be careful when opening a can for it may ruin what could be the greatest sandwich you will ever make =(

so i went to a wedding today. i looked slick, white shirt, tie, but top button undone, tie not all the way up, looked cool.but anways.

decided to start..........doing something...........with the bodykit..

so far i just spent time..in the garden....wet n dry wid sandpaper smoothing the bumper down then just washin it...dryed it an ready for primer....
got front bumper sorted back bumper spent time primering the grill holes...and had not time to finish it...

so far lookin good..now i need to go an open the bumper on my car...just so i can figure out how to connect it.....gnna have to customize some drilling...

not to sure wen i can start getting the grill... and wen ill have time to paint the bumper navy blue...

im not in a rush to finish the job since....i have till begining of feb 2010 to sort this out...

dont really have a good place to put any of this....most of the rooms are full....unless my brothers room

I hardly get any.. but when I do usually shaving spots or after growing a bushy beard and shaving a couple of spots popup.. but my main problem is when I get a spot on my forehead I tend to itch it and touch it ... eventually the spot goes away but leaves a darkisk brown/black scab that I cant peel away or anything as its in the skin... So what can I use to help get rid of this? Its annoying have a scar smack bang in the middle of your forehead... Got a weddding coming up end of November and I want it gone by then... My last ones from my wedding have nearly gone but can still be seen if you look closely enough and concentrate...

I usually wake up at about 8:30 for work... although I could wakeup at 9 as I start at half 9 I usually just want to browse online for abit like now...

My day ends at about 9pm-10pm usually just chatting to the wifey in bed

Weekends I get up slightly later at about 10/11 but still end up going to sleep between 9 and 10 pm..

Wagwan people of the universe. basically, i need to be school'd, and this time, it's not on girls.

so i bought some door speakers about a year ago, as the standard ones were dead. i never got round to fitting them in, so me and spider (hopefully) are going to do a mission today and do it ourselves.

however, the problem is, the guy who sold me them in the shop, gave me the wrong ones (pr*ck).. to be fair, it says EVERY car on the box apart from 'Ford' but that's minor.

so i looked at the standard speakers, and the part where you plug it in the speaker, the connections are different. i'm planning on going to halfords, and just seeing if they have like an adaptor.

also, the sizes are different, so i plan on, with spiders help (hopefully), drilling holes in the plastic, and then just doing it make shit, as the hole is big enough for the speakers, but not the drill slots.

Do other people get annoyed when their best friend/friend has a guy or gal and all they do is talk about this guy/girl and all of a sudden their life revolves around this one single person?

Like my best friend, who started dating this friend of ours, and they have been together for a year now. When they first started dating, she totally shut out all her friends and spent every waking moment she had with her guy, which is fine, they were a new couple, in the beginning stages etc. It never really bothered me until I realized that even now, after they have been together for some time, she cant really make time for other people in her life. When we do manage to get together, she spends the whole time on her phone texting him or talking to him, and eventually he will end up coming wherever we are because she claims "its not fun without him", and they have no inhibitions about public displays of affection, which is a little awkward for the people with them. I decided not to let that bother me so much, but I can't help but get angry, because she makes a big deal out of seeing me like "omg i havent seen you in so long, tonight will be a girls night, just us, im so excited etc etc" and every single time her boyfriend shows up and the night turns into all about them. It's like they can't go out without each other and have a good time.

Hey when I click on House Of Bhangra on the menu a new website loads but then my Kaspersky says that this page is trying to load a virus.... If I block that it�s OK but then from time to time my whole page just crashes and freezes that I can�t move or do anything on the page. Have you checked the website for a virus?

Whats the best phone cards to get?

Tried that Chilli talk for India but the stupid thing does'nt work half the time.

Call the 0207 number from mobile and get nothing (its free from the mobile due to price plan)

Call the 0207 number from the landline and get through without issues.

Call the 0800 number from the mobile and get through with the pin working.

Call the 0800 number from the landline and get an error about the pin being incorrect.

So either way I cant connect to the silly thing for free which is what I wanna do rather then fork out money for the silly bugger.

My bro put loads on mine, but i only use some of them.... a couple of games, facebook, navigon(satnav)... i have an application called tube boards which would be quite useful, it tells you when the next tube is at any station, i haven't tested this out yet so i don't know how acurate it is...

Although both are advanced media player, they couldn�t support all of video and audio formats . So I go to Nidesoft Inc to get program Nidesoft Video Converter, which could convert video or audio files between all popular formats. Fortunately, this video converter not only could support Zune HD and iPod Touch, but also supports all of the popular multimedia devices, such as iPhone, Blackberry, Nokia, Palm, Sansa, Google Phone, iTunes and so on. Personally I select an AVI file and have tried it. Below is what I do:
Firstly, I download this software form http://www.nidesoft.com/downloads/video-converter.exe
Install and Run it.
Step 1: Load files.
Click "add Files" button and import the AVI video from my computer.
Tips: EDIT the video with the function button: Crop, Effect, Trim, Options
(1) Remove the undesired area or just convert part of the video area from my video file in �Crop� function.
(2) Select gray effect or Negative effect from Special Effect or tune the Brightness, Contrast, Saturation and Volume to get special effect movie in �Effect�.
(3) Click �Trim� button to get my favorite segment.
(4) Click the white box besides "Merge into one file" to merge your selected titles into one video.

Step2. Select the out file format
Click the �format� drop-down list to select the output format. The software provides many profiles to support different devices and players. I select MPEG-4 Movie (*.mp4).If you don�t know what formats your device supports, you can just select the format according to the device name.
Step3. Click the "Convert" button and start the conversion. Wait a few minutes before the conversion succeeds!
After conversion, you could open the folder and find the output video files there, try to play it on your PC first, and also you could load the converted file into your player. For iPod, you could use iTunes to sync the files to the device; for Zune, you need to download the Zune software to manage the media content. Now you could enjoy video with your favorite player. In addition, maybe you want to enjoy dvd movie with iPod or Zune and need convert dvd to ipod and zune. I also find Nidesoft DVD Ripper could help you convert DVD to all popular video or audio formats easily!

As for connectivity
The Zune HD is able to stream music over Wi-Fi, something the iPod Touch cannot do out of the box. But the iPod Touch can stream music over Bluetooth (via A2DP) to compatible players.

Feature-by-feature, the Zune HD and iPod Touch are very similar and now the lower price puts advantage over the Zune HD. But in long time, iPod has been occupied the major markets. Can Zune HD win iPod Touch? We have to wait.
